The metal band was formed in Espoo, Finland in '1993' and started out and released all of their demos as Inearthed, then the name Children Of Bodom was acquired from the most Legendary notorious mass murders in Scandinavian history that took place in Finland at Lake Bodom. When four teens went camping at Lake Bodom at night in '1960', Irmeli Bjorklund (female - 15 yrs), Tuulikki Maki (female - 15 yrs), Seppo Boisman (male - 18 yrs) and Nils Gustafsson (male - 18 yrs), three of them were stabbed to death in the middle of the night, and the man who survived, Nils Gustafsson, said he saw the Grim Reaper killing the other three teenagers. The Grim Reaper is Children Of Bodom's mascot and appears on their every album cover.
It was originally founded by singer-guitarist Alexi Laiho, bassist Henkka Blacksmith, drummer Jaska Raatikainen, keyboardist Janne Warman and guitarist Alexander Kuoppala. The Band honed their combination of old school black metal, classic heavy, and death metal vocals into the sharpest instrument of its kind and headed out to a studio recording a demo tape. After Spinefarm Records received Children Of Bodom's demo, it didn't take long for the company to figure out what they had in their hands. Soon the band was signed and ready to knock a few heads off.
Starting by the release of their album "Implosion Of Heaven (Inerthead)" in '1994', this album contained 4 of the best metal songs and was recorded in Munkkiniemen Studio in August '1994', the music is written by Alexi Laiho and lyrics by Samuli Miettinen.
Their next album was "Ubiquitos Absence Of Remission (Inerthead)" released in '1995', which also had 4 great songs of the black, heavy, death metal, this album was recorded in Astia Studios from 6th to 9th of July '1995', also the music is written by Alexi Laiho and lyrics by Samuli Miettinen.
Then after that they released their last album as Inerthead, "Shining (Inerthead)" in '1996', this album had 4 special songs of the best metal songs ever, this album was also recorded in Astia Studios in February '1996', Alexi Laiho and Jani Pera Pirisjoki have written the music, while the lyrics by Samuli Miettinen and Jontte Iivonen.
Children Of Bodom started by releasing "Something Wild" in '1998', recording this album was very hard but it was a great album, it was the band's 1st album which contained great metal, black metal and death metal songs making the band famous.
Children Of Bodom released their next album "Hatebreeder" in '1999', recording this album wasn't easy but it was a great album, it was the band's 2nd album which contained great metal, black metal and death metal songs making the band famous.
Children Of Bodom worked after that hardly on releasing their next album "Follow The Reaper" in '2001', it was the band's 3rd album resulting from the hard work which contained a new songs collection and was the greatest metal album in it's year.
In summer '2001' the band had a tour in Japan and recorded their live album "Tokyo Warhearts", it was a great live album of the band containing their old songs live, it was the best metal live album and all the 30000 copies of it were almost immediately sold out.
The band then released "Hate Crew Deathroll" in '2003', in this album the band took their song writing into new levels of aggressivity and heaviness and it was the best metal album this year and sold over 3 million copies all over the world.
In the Summer '2003', Alexander Kuoppala left the band and was replaced by guitarist Roope Latvala, whose stellar playing had already graced countless of Finnish metal records, being perhaps the most widely acclaimed metal guitarist in Finland ever.
In year '2005' Children Of Bodom barricaded themselves into studio Hastholmen, Helsinki, to record their next full-length album "Are You Dead Yet?" together with producer-mixer-engineer guru Mikko Karmila, the album was a great hit to the band and sold platinum.
The Band made a move in '2006', releasing their live album "Stockholm Knockout" containing the tracks of the old albums, guitar solos and featuring new tracks of the metal genres, which made the album special and sold out immediately.
Children Of Bodom have come a long way to knock some heads off since their humble beginnings, and today stand tall in the all time extreme metal hall of fame, commanding the respect and awe of both fans and colleagues alike, entering new styles of guitar, bass and vocals which made them the biggest black and death metal band.
